Multidisciplinary gathering will provide practical education on the treatment and prevention of critical limb ischemia (CLI)

MALVERN, PA (July 17, 2018) – HMP, a leading healthcare events and education company, today announced the 8th Annual Amputation Prevention Symposium (AMP) will take place August 8–11, 2018 in Chicago. Led by Jihad A. Mustapha, MD, FACC, FSCAI, a pioneer in the field of critical limb ischemia (CLI), AMP is the only international meeting dedicated to the treatment and prevention of CLI.

Every year, more than 75,000 amputations occur as a result of CLI, a serious form of peripheral vascular disease that is caused by severe blockage in the arteries of the lower extremities. Amputations due to complications of the vascular system continue to increase, particularly given factors such as diabetes, obesity, and an aging population. CLI remains a global problem due to many factors, including a lack of awareness within the healthcare community and the general public.

Approximately 800 participants – interventional cardiologists, interventional radiologists, vascular surgeons, physician assistants, nurses, and other clinicians typically part of a limb salvage team – will take part in AMP, billed as the “CLI Revolution.” The hands-on, high impact program will feature more international faculty than ever before. More than 60 leading CLI experts will give attendees the opportunity to gain insight and perspective on CLI advances from around the world.

In addition to Dr. Mustapha, the following Course Directors are guiding the 2018 AMP Program:

  • George L. Adams, MD, MHS, FACC, Rex Healthcare and University of North Carolina Health Systems, Garner, North Carolina;
  • Thomas Davis, MD, St. John Hospital and Medical Center, St. Clair Shores, Michigan;
  • Lawrence A. Garcia, MD, St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Boston, Massachusetts;
  • D. Chris Metzger, MD, Wellmont CVA Heart Institute, Kingsport, Tennessee;
  • Fadi Saab, MD, FACC, FSCAI, FASE, Advanced Cardiac and Vascular Amputation Prevention Centers, Grand Rapids, Michigan;
  • Jos C. van den Berg, MD, Ospedale Regionale di Lugano, Lugano, Switzerland;
  • Craig Walker, MD, Tulane Medical School Cardiovascular Institute, Houma, Louisiana; and
  • Thomas Zeller, MD, Universitäts-Herzzentrum Freiburg-Bad Krozingen, Bad Krozingen, Germany

“The Amputation Prevention Symposium remains the only educational forum dedicated exclusively to the treatment and prevention of critical limb ischemia,” said Dr. Mustapha. “Each year, we reaffirm our commitment to grow and advance the CLI Revolution with our globally recognized faculty and cutting-edge technology. As we see an increasing number of cases of CLI year over year, every participant of AMP becomes a crucial player in the fight to save limbs and preserve quality of life for our patients. At AMP 2018 we will see how life-changing outcomes can be generated by fearless approaches and fearless leaders.”

Participants will gain valuable insight from leading CLI operators as they share information during complex live cases; participate in hands-on workshops that incorporate cutting-edge technology including tibial ultrasound mapping, atherectomy devices, and complex lesion tools with cadaveric models; and network with 35+ leading companies showcasing the latest devices, tools, and services to support endovascular and vascular techniques.

Also on the agenda is the CLI Wound Summit. Co-developed with the CLI Global Society, the Summit will feature sessions tailored for both the interventionalist and the wound care specialist that provide insight and guidance to enhance the multidisciplinary team approach, deemed an essential component of a successful limb salvage effort.

Participants will have the opportunity to earn up to 22 CME/CE/CECH credits.
