COVID-19 Update

HMP Global continues to closely monitor the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. As this is an evolving situation, we are committed to providing regular updates to you as new information becomes available and have developed some FAQs

Our thoughts are with those who have been, and continue to be, affected by this outbreak.

On March 11 the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the COVID-19 (2019-nCOV) outbreak a global pandemic. Global health organizations including WHO and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have urged that all nonessential travel to the People’s Republic of China, Iran, South Korea, and many countries in Europe be avoided, as well as have issued an advisory against travel globally for older adults or those who have chronic medical conditions. Please see the most up-to-date alert list here. In addition, the travel restrictions signed by the U.S. Government on January 31 and February 29, 2020 remain in effect. Effective March 13, 2020, there are additional restrictions banning travel to the United States by foreign nationals from EU countries for a 30-day period.

In light of recent developments and in line with CDC guidance to do our part to mitigate the spread of the disease, we are taking important measures to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of our faculty, attendees, exhibitors, and staff, and have made the decision to move several of our meetings.

The schedule for our 2020 meetings is currently as follows: 

  • AIBD Regionals: The Los Angeles meeting is being moved to August; more details are forthcoming. All other events are proceeding as planned (Boston, Chicago, Chapel Hill, Houston)

  • Psych Congress Regionals: The Portland meeting is moving; more details are forthcoming. All other events are currently proceeding as planned (San Antonio, Chicago, Orlando, New York, Baltimore, San Francisco, Anaheim)

  • Elevate: The meeting originally scheduled to take place March 27-29, 2020, in Las Vegas, Nevada has been moved; more details are forthcoming. 

  • Interdisciplinary Autoimmune Summit (IAS): The meeting originally scheduled to take place April 3-5, 2020 in New York has been moved; more details are forthcoming. 

  • Wound Clinic Business: All programs are currently proceeding as planned (Boston, San Diego, Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Orlando, Atlanta, St. Louis)

  • Wound Certification Prep Course (WCPC): All courses are currently proceeding as planned (Miami, Memphis, Ann Arbor, Atlantic City, San Diego, Charleston, Columbus, Chicago, St. Louis, Mystic, Bloomington, Las Vegas, Baltimore, New Orleans)

  • Great Debates & Updates in Hematologic Malignancies: The Chicago and New York meetings are being moved to the summer; more details are forthcoming.

We continue to closely monitor the situation, and we are actively following the guidance from global and federal public health agencies. 

We are working with our faculty, exhibitors, and other stakeholders to ensure access to research and education from our meetings.

Health officials are urging the the following preventive practices for keeping yourself and others healthy—stay home when you are sick; avoid contact with those sick, ensure frequent washing of hands, etc. We encourage all of you to read and follow the CDC and WHO Recommendations for protecting yourself and others from the infection. Below are answers to some Frequently Asked Questions related to the COVID-19 outbreak:

Q. Has HMP Global Canceled or Postponed Any of Its Meetings?

A. In light of recent developments and in line with CDC guidance, we are taking important measures to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of our faculty, attendees, exhibitors, and staff, and have made the decision to move several of our meetings. 

Q. What Steps Should I Take to Keep Myself and Others Healthy?

A. The CDC is encouraging everyone to follow the same personal best practices that are standard for a typical flu season—stay home if you are sick or immunocompromised, cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze, wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds, etc. We encourage all of you to read and follow the CDC and WHO Recommendations for protecting yourself and others. 

Q. Are there travel restrictions I should be aware of?

A. Q. What additional measures is HMP Global undertaking at meetings in these circumstances?

We remain focused on delivering on our mission of providing critical education for the healthcare professionals we serve – in whatever format necessary, including virtually to ensure the safety of our participants and the widest access possible. When a meeting is held, we will do so with the appropriate health measures in place at our meetings – working with hotel, convention center, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure extra measures in place to minimize infection risk. They include:

  • Reinforcing and maintaining rigorous cleanliness and safety standards throughout the property/ies

  • Keeping close contact with health officials and continually monitoring developments

  • Following CDC guidelines around prevention of the spread of COVOID-19 

  • Using disinfectants that are designed to prevent further spread of viruses like the that of COVID-19

  • Ensuring ample hand sanitizer onsite

  • Instituting handshake-free meetings

  • Ensuring regular and ongoing communication through the mobile app and other outlets
